Shop history

Origin

Erik Rueda founded the business in 2013 while still in college, starting with residential furniture projects for Boston clients. After graduation and active duty in the Army, he opened the first workshop in a converted South End garage, quickly establishing a reputation for creative, high-quality work.

Moving to the city

With the move to Allerton St. in Boston’s South End, production ramped up and our reputation for premier, tech-forward custom furniture grew.

Creation of Foundry 214

In 2015, we relocated to Chelsea, MA, gaining a spacious workshop and an additional 9,000 square feet on the second floor. This space was transformed into Foundry 214, a vibrant collaborative space for small businesses. Over the next two years, we renovated the entire building, creating a dynamic environment where ideas and clients are shared.

Expanding Our Capabilities

As the business grew, so did our capabilities. We added a full finishing department, CNC technology, and industrial woodworking equipment — bringing more of the process in-house and ensuring projects could be crafted with precision from start to finish.

More Space for Making

214 Arlington St. has always been central to our story. What began as a shared hub is now entirely our own — fully dedicated to expanded workshop space, new tools, and more of the hands-on craft that defines us.

Today

214 Arlington St. remains our home, where architects, designers, and craftspeople work side by side. Our team of industrial designers, project managers, and woodworkers combines expertise and innovation to deliver projects of exceptional quality. Building on a decade of growth and award-winning work, we’re expanding across the U.S. and into Europe, ready for new challenges that push design and craft forward.
